KOTA BARU: The high demand for tube wells during the current hot season has resulted in many local installation companies having their hands full.

Mohd Jamil Yaakub, who began installing tube wells in 2020, said public demand for his services has increased since March.

"The hot season caused many people in the state to face problems getting clean water supply.

"Beginning in the fasting month this year, and over the past few months, demand for tube well drilling services has been so encouraging, so much so that sometimes we are unable to meet the needs of customers.

"With the help of 10 workers, we manage to install three tube wells in a day as it takes us four to five hours to complete one job," said the 35-year-old from Tanah Merah told the New Straits Times.

Jamil, who is popularly known as "Raja Air Boring" among locals, said the charges for installing tube wells depended on the depth it needed to hit and the make-up of the soil at the construction site.

"Over the past few months, many called us to ask for tube well installation and others wanted us to add more tube wells in their homes.

"(Some have even) asked for tube wells to be installed inside their very houses, as there has been no water supply at all in their premises," he said.

Jamil said he was, in fact, receiving orders from people outside Kelantan.

These include from Kedah, Perak, Pahang and Terengganu.

"Apart from residential areas, we gets orders from schools, mosques and industrial areas," he added.

Kelantan has been facing critical clean water supply problems for the past few months, forcing most of the people in the state to build tube wells in their homes.
